September 14, 2011 - KickSmart! Soccer Symposium

The Hospital for Joint Diseases and the NYU Langone Musculoskeletal Rehab Network is hosting the KickSmart! Soccer Symposium for coaches, soccer and athletic trainers, and parents on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, from 6-8:30 pm at NYU Langone Medical Center's Alumni Hall B. Experts from the Hospital for Joint Diseases, Rusk, and special guest speakers from Real Madrid TEC and Major League Soccer will cover a wide range of topics relating to the health and fitness of soccer players.

July 25, 2011 - Department Hosts Golf Outing to Benefit Musculoskeletal Research

Join the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery for its annual golf outing on Monday July 25, 2011. This year's golf outing will take place at Saint Andrew’s Golf Club, Hasting-on-Hudson, NY at 10 am. Participants can sponsor an orthopaedic surgery resident to play or book a game of four. All proceeds go directly to the Department's numerous research initiatives.

Hospital for Joint Diseases Hosts Annual Rose Dabbs Community Health Fair on July 9th

Come join us on Saturday, July 9th from 11am until 4pm for the annual Rose Dabbs Health Fair! The Hospital for Joint Diseases will be offering free blood pressure and osteoporosis screenings to registered attendants. Norman Otsuka, MD, Director of the HJD Center for Children will be available to answer questions and a representative will also be available to provide information regarding Physician Referrals. The Food and Nutrition Department will also offer free nutrition information for interested attendees.

Other events featured at the Rose Dabbs Health Fair will include a book and craft sale, a teddy bear clinic, face painting, and much more.

The event is sponsored by the NYU Langone Hospital for Joint Diseases Auxiliary, in collaboration with the Patient Centered Care Department.

May 15, 2011 - The New York City Arthritis Walk

Join the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery's Arthritis Walk Team on May 2011 at History Battery Park (Entrance opposite 17 State Street. Registration 8:30 AM; Walk 10:00 AM) Patrick Meere, MD, of the Adult Reconstruction Division, is once again Chair of the New York City Arthritis Walk. The Arthritis Walk is the signature fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation and we are proud to support the Foundation's efforts to help treat and prevent arthritis.

Last year, the Hospital for Joint Diseases team fielded the largest team at the New York City Arthritis Walk. Help us reach the top one more year! We encourage all employees, patients, family, and friends to join our team.

March 19, 2011 - BikeSmart Cycling Symposium

The Sports Medicine Division is hosting a free cycling symposium for coaches and athletes at the Hospital for Joint Diseases' Loeb Auditorium, 301 East 17th Street  (2nd Avenue) at 7:00 am. (Breakfast & registration begin at 7:15 AM; program begins at 8:00 AM)

Join the HJD faculty for an informative program on optimal nutrition, recovering from bike injuries, optimizing performance and other cycling-related topics. Division Faculty Claudette Lajam, MD, Tony McLaurin, MD and Dennis Cardone, DO, will address sports injuries and sports medicine topics. Other guests include:

  • Iñigo San Millán, PhD Director, Exercise Physiology and Human Performance Laboratory,
    University of Colorado Hospital.
  • Lee Igel, PhD, Clinical Assistant Professor of Sports Management, NYU, and expert in the area of Sports and Organizational Psychology
  • Ann Marie Miller, 11-time US National Masters’ Champion, 21-time US Masters’ National Medalist, and USA Cycling Level 3 licensed coach, with over 20 years experience as a fitness professional and an MA from Columbia University in Applied Physiology
  • Felicia Stoler, DCN, MS, RD, FACSM, registered dietitian, exercise physiologist, and expert consultant in nutrition and healthful living
  • Will Alvarado, from TOGA Bikes, an expert bike fitter, cyclist, and triathlete with a master's certification in the Specialized Body Geometry fit method
