Shoulder and Elbow Division

The Shoulder & Elbow Division of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery invites college graduates and medical students to apply for a one to two year research fellowship in the clinical sciences. Selected candidates will be mentored by full-time HJD faculty members, Drs. Kwon, Rokito and Zuckerman. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of the basic principles that form the foundation for scientific investigation.

Over the course of the year, Research Fellows will gain the ability to develop a hypothesis, conduct a review of literature, compose a research protocol and IRB application, compile, organize and analyze data and prepare results for submission for academic publication and or presentation, and become familiar with grant writing and the grant application process. This position also involves management of our Shoulder and Elbow database which compiles inpatient and outpatient data on shoulder procedures performed by our division since 2010.

In addition, participants may shadow our orthopaedic physicians both in clinic and the OR. These experiences will help develop and polish patient interaction and physical examination skills while providing exposure to a wide variety of surgical techniques. All Research Fellows are invited to attend Grand Rounds, Resident Didactics and Journal Club. This opportunity is ideal for those candidates with an interest in the field of Orthopaedic Surgery who wish to strengthen their application for a health related field.
