Orthopedic Surgery Scholarships and Grants for Medical Students

NYU Langone’s Department of Orthopedic Surgery is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment by providing all medical students the opportunity to gain clinical experience in the field. We offer funded positions to support students in this effort. While these opportunities are available to all medical students, preference is given for those who demonstrate financial need, and we especially encourage female medical students and those who are underrepresented in medicine (URiM) to apply.

The J. Serge and May Parisien Medical Student Scholarship

Through the generosity of J. Serge and May Parisien, we offer two scholarships for eligible fourth-year medical students to supplement the cost of travel and living in New York City during our one-month senior medical student elective clinical clerkship in orthopedic surgery.

The department’s Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion evaluates applications and awards up to two $2,000 scholarships to eligible medical students, especially those demonstrating financial need.

Applicants should first apply to the orthopedic surgery elective and then complete the scholarship application below. Instructions on submission and contact information are included in the application.

To be eligible to receive the scholarship, you must already be accepted to the regular four-week rotation, be from an accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school in the United States, be in good standing academically, and complete the elective. URiM and female medical students are strongly encouraged to apply. The funding will be made available at the conclusion of the rotation.

The application deadline is June 30 every year.

Department of Orthopedic Surgery Summer Externship Grants

In addition to the Parisien scholarship, the department allocates funds on a yearly basis for participation in the summer externship program for students between their first and second years of medical school. Again, we strongly encourage URiM and female applicants. The number of grants varies from year to year.
